  • How can we run beta versions of C3 with the desktop build?

Edit: I saw this in C3's update comment section. Ashley said: "It's not supported yet - we're hoping to work something out soon."

  • Try this:

    1. Edit package.json (backup just in case)

    2. Modify these sections "main" and "node-remote" URLs, adding /r87/ or whatever the latest at the end

    3. Save

    4. Remove the c3 cache folder in: \Users\<user-name\AppData\Loca\construct3\User Data\Default\Cache (backup just in case)

    5. Start C3, it will update to specified beta version

Can someone please verify (devs, is this ok or will it cause problems?). I just got it working, have not done extensive tests to see if there are any side effects.

  • It's working. I didn't remove the cache. Thank you!

  • - those steps should work (you shouldn't need to clear the cache either, and I don't think you need to change node-remote), but note your version will then be locked permanently to that release. By default it will auto-update to the latest stable release, but after you do that you won't be notified about any updates at all. So if you're willing to keep tweaking it to track versions that should be OK as an interim measure until we figure out something better.

  • FInally... great! I will test it with some source control in our team

  • So I put together a little utility that can help automate using different versions of Construct3 desktop. Hopefully its useful to other people. Enjoy!

    1. Put in same folder as construct3.exe

    2. Enter version (87, 88, 89) or blank for latest stable

    3. Click [Run C3] button to load that version directly from the utility to test.

    Download (~1.5mb)

  • I just start using Construct 3 so I have much to learn, but I really liked the Desktop build.

It is much more comfortable than a browser with all the extra buttons, even full screen (F11) makes the edges looks weird, and addons that eat memory. Desktop Build is my choice. thanks for making it Scirra!

    Suggestions / Improvements:

. Can you please make the UI to remember the last position and size (maximized or not) of the Desktop Window just like it used to be on Construct 2 ?

In construct 2 it even remembers on which Monitor I last put the windows which I really like.

My personal example: I'm using 3-4 screens (I'm an animator that's why) it's great for me to put the Event Sheets on one screen, Layouts on the other and the Animation Editor on the third one.

Same for the side panels, I keep Re-Organized them wide / long etc... and whenever I restart C3 Desktop, it's reset to default. it will be great if Construct 3 will remember the last changes and have a preset option to save all these changes for other Workspaces for different setups.

. Maybe it's because I'm new and I didn't found it yet, but is there an easier way to find the Grid or Views in general like we had in Construct 2 or I must go threw the MENU every time I want to make a change.

Even simple task such as save as.. is weird.

I'm aware that it's better to remember short-keys for everything, but in Construct 2 I didn't have to remember short keys and still everything was in front of my eyes it was very user-friendly.

I understand that C3 is a new different deisng, but if we can have options to organized the workspace it will be great, presets will be an amazing addition.

I'll keep explore C3, after all it's very new to me, please keep up the good job I can't wait to see what's coming next.

    * Sorry about my bad English.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I've added a new download that loads the latest beta release of C3 (see OP). Note currently you have to be online to use the beta channel download, because it currently does a redirect to the latest beta release on the server side. We'll update this in future to work better offline.

  • In the stable build I noticed that

    • when I load my game my properties, layers, and project windows all seem to be the small default sizes

    • it starts windowed, doesn't remember that I ran it as maximized

anyone else had that issue, or is that fixed in the beta release version?

Yes, it happens also on the latest Beta build:

The main window starts on the middle screen, not maximized and the side panels are tiny.

It doesn't remember the window size and all panels from last closed session.

  • Today I've tried and play around with a C3 desktop build for a change and so far so good, but after about 2 hours it starts closing by itself. It happens few times by now. No info, no save, no error message, nothing... Just like someone pressed alt+F4, all your work is gone in a split of a seconds.

Unfortunately there's no way to reproduce cause it happens to randomly and can't really post it as a bug. So just want to ask if someone have similar "adventures" with a desktop build r89 stable.
