Casino? money? who knows? but the target is the same!
  • Hi, guys,

This question made me think: what if construct 2 isn't just a game maker, but an app maker for your company or event?

As i was browsing through the forums, studying c2 and during my main job as a designer ( i work in a special events company)

I encountered making apps for events. I just wondered, why not i make this app in my c2 though its not a game? and have a template out of it?

Good idea right? the apps we make in Construct software can be applicable to simple drop and click app guides for corporate event guides.

I'm wondering if scirra would go the extra effort on this. I won't demand for too many things but if this was applicable to games, what more to apps that requires simple logic or functions? it's a nice platform, that permits cross publishing between ios and android so i love using this.

If construct can't do this, are there any other product out there that's so simple, (i'm not a computer programmer and i'm more focused on front end designing) manageable like construct app engine that lets you publish in different platforms? of course, same style as drag and drop and bit logic.

  • Games are just interactive entertainment apps.

So yes ... construct software can definitely be used to build apps for a wide range purposes and needs.

This is what drew us to C2 in the first place.

We ditched native iOS app development when we found C2 in 2014. We now use it for almost all of our front-end work.

I don't know of any full-featured tool that would allow us to produce HTML5 content as quickly and easily as Construct.

  • I don't know why Construct solely focuses on only HTML games, when you can do so much more with it, including creating other types apps. I once made a calculator with C2. You can make websites and animations too, although not as easily. Tom and Ashley are limiting their user base to only game enthusiasts, but they should open it up to more people.

What about motion comics? You can easily make something like that with C2 and C3.

I think Motion Books is flashed based, so C3 can own that space if they really wanted to. Construct could probably fill in a lot of niche markets left open by Flash and they really wouldn't have to change their software at all. The opportunities are there.

  • I agree. C2/C3 can be used to build apps as well, so Scirra should do it's marketing accordingly. They are missing out on some serious user base in my opinion. Ashley , what do you think?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • It's something we've got on the list of things to look at going forwards - for now we're 100% focused on getting Construct 3 out the door and established as a great game engine.

    Great to know.

  • For the OP, I asked the same question here:

    More info there.

  • construct is marketed as an engine to create games, applications, and even websites. However, if you're looking to hit the largest possible audience, you advertise that you can make games because it draws in people who are bored and looking to play around with things. even in the templates it shows you how instead of making games you could make apps like skype or chat rooms or maybe even encrypted email services. and yes, while construct may seem like overkill just to make a website, it sure will look professional. this is why you can put things in your project such as apple or android support, etc. in closing, dont let what somethings marketed as limit you. everything can be used for something other than its original intention, thats how we invent inventions.

  • alas C2 is a little short in text input and formating output. They soom excel like addins for this.

I believe Ashley said this is coming soon after the new C3 runtime.

  • Yes, why not.

Pro and con compare to native or code base app:

    Pros

    • Fast prototype and build time
    • animation and layout did a great job

    Cons

    • Slow with large data
    • Huge APK file
    • less support of native function

Hope there is a auto scroll container plugin or component in the future.

This is the hardest part when creating business app.

I agree. It can be done using workarounds, but it can take up so much time to just make this simple function. Maybe you should file a feature request for that.

  • I made a fully functional piece of "Point of Sale" software using C2. A friend of mine opened a fish/aquarium store and had nothing to run his sales... so I used C2 to make something that has fully inventory control, transaction history... and even interfaces with a barcode scanner, receipt printer and cash drawer...

Yes C2/C3 can do a LOT more than just making games!

  • cool guys for the inputs! actually i hope this might evolved sooner. I researched some app building softwares-they may be reliable but this is a first that i encountered such capabilities importing to different platforms. I haven't fully scrutinized C2 yet but i think there's an option for advanced users to tinker with the coding?
