  • No problem guys. Happy to do that cos I want to be able to use an updated Kongregate plugin too.

I'd be interested to hear a response from Ashley now that Kongregate seems to have ruled out the possibility of their maintaining a plugin.

I also really hope a representative from Kongregate comes to the forum to either state their position why its not feasible for them to make a plugin or to communicate with Ashley... maybe the two parties can still meet half way. I asked them to come over. So lets see what happens.

  • On topic, I think rexrainbow should setup a Patreon page and we could rain some bucks on him.

It's a great idea. If he's into this.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I took at look at the API documents for Kongregate today and the public client side calls don't really seem to be that difficult to implement. Seems to me that since Kongregate is a portal, they do most of the heavy lifting like posting the interstitial ads and such over top of your game.

Given that I have never used Kongregate before, It'll take some time to mess around with that too.

Won't guarantee anything but the simpler client side api calls don't look too difficult to implement...

So broknecho are you serious that you'd want to have a look at this?

As irbis already posted, rexrainbow is the dev who has said he'd be interested to do a kongregate plugin for us, but he is unable to work on it until about 3 months away.

Maybe you could do as much as you are comfortable with, and rex could pick up where you stop when he has time?

Im certainly happy to put some money down for who ever wants to work on this.

  • Artpunk Yeah for sure! I've already started updating the current plugin as a V2. I've signed up on Kongregate to start the process of getting a game up there to test it. I'll let you know when I have something to test. Probably within the week or so. Got soooo many projects on the go right now but there might be some quick wins especially if we get a list of needs from current Kongregate users. I'll look at posting the Plugin on github and then anyone can fork it and keep it updated if I don't have time to.

DatapawWolf I did mostly mean that as a joke as there are some hostile posts towards Scirra in this post...but really the 3 happy faces was my feeble attempt at internet sarcasm.

Irbis Sorry for the tone of that PM. Didn't mean to offend you. No hard feelings. I hope you read the full PM sometime to realize the message was positive in the end

  • I would suggest looking for some methods to sitelock games.

It's easy enough to check for the domain, but the referer url will vary if the user isn't logged in.

I say this as I've had games stolen from both Gamejolt, and Newgrounds.

Of course there is a difference between them and Kongregate, that being you have control over the source, whereas on Gj, and Ng you upload to their servers.

  • newt some time ago we (me and Irbis) were having same issue with sitelocking on newgrounds cause the game was loaded from entirely different address than the game page was (some iframes were involved if I remember correctly). and together we came up with a nice solution that works quite well - no matter on what server Newgrounds put our files. The game always and only works from the adress that was equal to newground game adress.

I didn't made anything for browsers in years, so not sure if this still works. Irbis is this still working? did you tried it recently?

anybody can sitelock their games from like as long as I can remember? O.o

    Even via events+browser object.

But if thats more than you can chew - you always can use Rex's iFrame Filter Plugin...

Irbis is this still working? did you tried it recently?

Yeah it does. It actually became even kind a easier now than before.

Plus - there is no harm in your game getting stolen if you know what you are doing and you exploit it

In some cases, the stolen version of my games made me more profit than the legit uploaded by me lol.

  • The problem is that these sites all use iframe, and that site locking to a domain does nothing when the source of the iframe is from the sitelock domain.

The portals are the issue, they do nothing to stop this kind of theft.

They could at least tell us what the referer url will be.

That's the only way to actually sitelock a game.

Nope. I remember quite well we've dealt with that without problems.

Plus - as I've said - pirates and game stealing will always be there.

So instead of a DRM that will be cracked or worked around the day after - you just exploit this illegal sources.

I remember when those crooks from gamesheed (or w/e their name is) stolen my Antumbra off Newgrounds. Little did they knew that I've planeted a site detector in game, that would launch high-profit porn Ad's if the game would be played anywhere else beside GJ, NG and KG.

Took them a damn 3 weeks to notice lol. That 3 weeks earned me like 100 bucks. More than NG paid at that time.

They've removed the game and a week later came to me with their tails between their legs and this email.

    Ahhh... Good times <3

shinkan ? Did I ever shared this with you?

  • How do you detect if the content being shown in an iframe is on a different domain?

I've already tested, and the browser plug just returns the source domain, not the domain it's being hosted on.

Ads are an interesting solution, but showing porn is not an option, and finding an ad service that doesn't care what domain their ads are shown is next to impossible.

The few options I've found are Leadbolt, (which is mobile only, and depends on their interpretation of what mobile is. which usually means you get no ads) or Adsense.

Its then next to impossible not to break their rule, no iframes, has to be 150px away from content etc, and losing an account with google is not something you want to happen.

shinkan ? Do you still have the source code of CAGE somewhere? The oldest I still have is from our old dropbox folder and its the prototype I did before we've setup SadCatStudio.

Check the Ads provider of Newgrounds and ask them out. If they are fine with their Ads running next to Pedobear animation and Lolicon Hilary Clinton sex game - I am kind a sure they won't mind w/e website you'll host your game on. If that's not the case - link your game with a YouTube video by embing the video into your game or sending people to watch it onsite.

You can sell traffic, you can use AdFly (but income is sh*t). Strike a deal with a youtuber or blogger. Channel the traffic back to you social media. Sell source code or Ads Space on Blackhats.

And this is just from top of my head. "Making money from games" is a book material.

You just need to be a bit creative with the methods.

Actually, not that much recently. Not anymore at least. They've rigged their math behind the Ads to make the Ads more "Kids friendly".

Result? My income from AdSense dropped from 100% to around 25-30% to the point where it just isn't worth the hassle anymore. That's why I've moved to Steam. And also why I've "tried" to make newest KG API happen in C2. With the new API and proper handling - you can make more money on KG then you'll ever would on mobiles.

But... yeaaah. Apparently people are just... not that much into that "making money" thing.

  • I think we need something like https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... ent/domain

    Ashley for the browser plug.

  • Irbis I do not have anything from that time period, it was when my pc got fuc*** up... But there should be a zipped version I sent you somewhere from end of December.

EDIT: There might be some leftovers on fb messenger.

Well F. Then it melted with my old hard drive :\

Sorry Newt. Sadly, no source for you.

  • So after Kongregate's initial reply saying they had no plans to make a plugin for C2, I had followed up to ask if they could come to the forum to discuss their position and to possibly engage with Ashley. I received this response from Kongregate customer support:

    [quote:livncsos]

    Hello,

I have posed your questions to the developers but I haven't heard any response. Sorry!

    Regards,

    Ragnar

    Community & Support

So I persisted, and tried to encourage them to engage with the C2 community, but it seems certain that they want nothing to do with making a Kongregate plugin for C2, and they are not even interested in coming to the forum to discuss it either.

Just posting to put a line through that option.

    Hi ASHLEY. You previously posted:

[quote:livncsos]I would much prefer for Kongregate to develop and publish their own C2 plugin... I'd encourage you to go to Kongregate about further support.

Given that we have explored this and Kongregate now seems to have pretty much ruled your preferred option out, does this change your position at all? Is there any chance the official Kongregate plugin could be updated by Scirra?
